This post could be a continuation of
the previous one, because it happened more or less in the same
period. One day I got an interesting and random email. It was a Gucci
pr asking me if I was interested in a paid internship at their press
office in Milan. I was kind of surprised, but then again they were
probably one of those 1000 + recipients to whom I had sent my cv for
possible job opportunities.
Even though at this point I was quite
sure that journalism was the right path for me, I was still
interested in making new experience in the pr world, mostly because
it is paid better and it can really help you build contacts. But as I
explained in the previous post, my situation with visa was
complicated and internship just wasn't an option. Plus I already had
a job offer from one semi-known magazine. I explained the situation
to the Gucci pr and I guess they were very interested in having me
because I was also contacted by their human resources office from
Florence in order to discuss any other contract possibilities. Eventually they decided that they just couldn't pay 20% more of taxes
for a real contract so we said goodbye. I was asked, however, by the
pr to let her know if my situation with visa changes in near
future...
Approximately six months later, when I already got my
visa, started working at a magazine which then went bankrupt, I saw
an ad for an internship at Gucci's press office. So I said why not, I
had no other job at the moment. I sent my updated cv to the pr that I
already knew, and this time I really thought it could work.
Unfortunately, she let me know that because of a new law that was
introduced in Italy couple of weeks prior, companies weren't allowed
any more to take interns who have finished their studies more than 12
months ago, which was my case... So again, so close, yet so far.
I
still believe it could have been a great learning experience for me.
But in the Republic of Interns, that is all that there is – just
internships, and now the country was taking even that opportunity
from me (officially because they wanted to prevent companies from
always taking interns instead of hiring young people). Well, dear
Gucci, we could have had it all, but it just wasn't meant to be...

VERY GOOD WORK!
